I don't think the aquatec is that loud. I heard it going off a lot at the scuba show and it was a pretty quiet quack, unless they were using an indoor version.

Cocos is out there and the swell can be big, like here. I'd also bring along a tall sausage, maybe the tall one from OMS

and maybe put some 3m solas reflective tape on it.

Flares are good, like others said. They also make dye packets.

You gotta think in terms of being a few hundred feet from the skiff and he just can't see you, which is whistle, sausage, maybe light or strobe or mirrror or mask (or cyalume at night.)

You also have to think in terms of the more serious search with boats and planes. That's dye packs, flares, mirrors.

If I were going to cocos again, on a hunter boat, I'd take the tall sausage, a storm whistle, and look into the flares or the dye pack.

If I were on the okeanos agressor, I'd bring a ticket for a hunter boat.
