We had a man top side deploy a drop cam while we were diving Izor's barge this weekend. We picked the drop cam up and played around with making a video. It turned out to be unexpectedly interesting! My attempt at directing turned out OK but the really cool part was when Phil just left it by a big tube anemone and we went off exploring. The blacksmiths were swarming the camera and it was great to see what they look like when they're not being chased around by divers! I want to take it down again and put some food out in front of it and swim off for about 15 mins.

I also found out that providing extra light with the HIDs doesn't work. The IR LEDS are all that it needs. We also need to figure out the min focal length. It's not optimal, but it'll do until I can affort real UW video gear.

Has anyone with nice UW video tried leaving it unattended to get candid fish shots?

Cheers,
Ross-O
