You should ask the shop owner what he is talking about.. I have a AL BP and have had NO problem's with it...
I hate it when someone starts a rumor, unsupported by facts, and then it spreads.
I would suggest that you ask the owner the following:
1) Have you ever dove with a AL BP;
2) Have you verified, or had the very problem, that forms the basis for the *bad rap*
3) Does he sell Al BP's?? If not, he may have ulterior motives;
4) What is the basis for the * bad rap* and who is hearing this from??
Or you could post his name and shop and we'll ask specifics..
