I think my use of Nitrox promotes dive safety. I agree that diving to the edge of NDLs is just as dangerous with nitrox, but I dive Nitrox to Air Limits. I do this because of my desire to be very conservative. My AIR computer rules the dive profile, and my Geezer Gas provides added margin. Also if I am involved in class activities with many ascents and descents, I like being less N2 loaded.
To me it seems to add some conservatism to my diving practises. We will be using nitrox when we dive the Yukon as a family in a few weeks. None of us will go beyond air limits -- even the children.
