I'll speak only for myself. I dive deep because it's the price I pay to get to places that are really cool. I use the best gear for the mission because I also like coming back. I like diving shipwrecks. Because of weather, wire dragging, depth charging and the deprivations of other divers, the best wrecks are deep. I like diving caves. Some of these, too, are deep. Even when they're not deep, they're overhead environments in which there is little margin for error. Some pinnacles are spectacular, like the Matterhorn. Many of these are deep, as well.

The multiple gasses, extra gear, added risk, expense and hours of decompression are all a screaming pain. I hate them all.
