if the weather does not cooperate while you are here and Sta Barbara or San Mig are inaccessible, there is a rookery about 5 hours south of Los Angeles near La Bufadora, Baja Calif. Norte, Mexico. More specifically, there is a little island off of Los Arbolitos, some 20 miles south of Ensenada. You will need kayaks and a good 4WD to get there, but it is a neat little rookery and it is relatively protected from all those heaving, angry northerly swells that we get in the wintertime.
