That was what I was (in jest) referring to. If what you say is true, than how could a flight instructor teach a new pilot to fly solo?

That aside, I was not defending solo diving. I acknowledge last year's high amount of diver deaths of which many were possibly caused by the fact that the diver was diving solo. We never talked about earlier years and their statistics. I don't know the numbers. But I am pretty sure that the share of solo dives was about the same then as it is now.

All that being said, I can perfectly envision how an instructor could teach a solo diving class. Seriously. And that's what the discussion was really about.
