Curgent lines are no guarantee, a strong current can suddenly appear in the opposite direction from a mild one that existed previously. I have experienced this many times over the years. Thus even if you thought you were working up current, you could still be SOL.
A sudden strong wind can come up, that may break the anchor loose. Again in this situation, a drift line would do no good.
