thanks for the explanation, Mike, in this and your other posts below. another friend of mine who is an OWSI didnt give an explanation, just said deep stops at 1/2 max depth are a good idea. i wasnt aware that the dive computers penalize it, however. i will have to see this weekend if my Suunto Vyper dive computer with its Nikkola SME format is also guilty of this. but first I will need to find a buddy to dive with me to 165 feet. most of the group wont be going deeper than 130, if that.
