I DM for an average of two classes per month (OW through Rescue) - pool to ocean. Every time it costs me money. That's something I expect and accept. I do this because I love helping people learn to dive. All of the DM's I know are in the same situation (BTW all are involved in instruction and do not work as boat DM's.) Anyone who is doing instructional DM work with the intention of making a profit is in the wrong field. It's just not going to happen anytime soon. In the current system an effective teacher is one who teaches because doing so is a passion. Having profit as the primary motivation leads to cutting corners and lowering quality.
