this simply parrots what any good population biologist would prescribe. It is a laundry list of issues, somewhat after the fashion of an alcoholic recognizing he/she has a problem with the bottle having made a major step to solving the problem with that very admission. So the UN recognizes a problem. Well, i'll say this: Jerry Falwell and his moral majority wouldn't have recognized the problem...so we eally are better off with the UN. Now Kelphead, go out and buy a used copy of G. Tyler Miller's "Living in the Environment". Mr Miller has authored a tour de force of a basic non-majors Human Ecology/Env't Bio/Man & the Envt textbook. It is at once rigorously scientific (it is not polluted with the sulfurous bilge of post-modern cultural constructivism) visionary and expansive and at the same time, addresses rather non-dismissively the opposing viewpoints. Get it before it is pulled for being too controversial or politically incorrect. It will step on some leftist toes. It will step on some rightwing toes. It will even step on some tree-hugger toes as well as the toes of the religous, but it's kinda like DIR...there is much intelligence on those pages and graphs and rhetorical questions.
