Agency issues aside, Phil definitely has the kind of experience you want in an instructor. He does have a bit of the TDI cowboy in him, but I respect his opinions considerably. He's also a fun guy in general.
The Point was one of the tippiest boats out there, but it did have a nice bit of room. It will be missed in that sense. But I wondered if it was actually viable having both boats. They'll certainly have no trouble keeping one boat filled solid.
For those occasional visitors to Monterey, the Cypress boats are the ones for the skilled divers who want to go to the big pinnacles and don't mind a bit of wave action on the way in/out. The Great Escape is probably the Socal equilivent.
