It is not that the gear is evil. Many folks dive with and love other gear. The fact that a diver wants to change gear does not mean he/she should burn the old stuff.
Every time I think about changing to a bit of DIR compliance I get nervous because I do not want to be seen as a zealot. Switch to a long hose and a necklased octo, and people might talk! I could find myself in the netherlands between regular and DIR with both sides loathing me.
If I stay as I am, other divers will still loath me, but at least they know who I am.
