Hey Jason,
If you are a Ventura local I might suggest a dive spot you can get to
that I am extremely curious about. You would have to wait for unusual
visibility for it to be worth diving, but it might be really good.
North of Ventura Pier a couple miles, is the surfing spot called Ventura
Overhead.... How do I describe where it is? It is a reef that breaks
about 200 yards offshore. It's the only offshore break up that way. It
is offshore from a major overpass on hiway 101. Shoot, I can't think of
a better description, but if you know the area, you might know the
place. Anyway, if you ever get to dive it, I'd love to hear about
it.
Also, if you are around that area, as far as I know, that reef off of
the north end of Carpenteria is perhaps the biggest reef area along
the shore of California. It has quite a history and was once a
fantastically productive abalone spot. It might be well worth your time
and the vis should be far better than in Ventura. It is another spot I
always wanted to dive, but never got to.
Enjoy the diving, seahunt
