Slates limit your options, they get in the way, they are cumbersome and the WetNotes allow us to leave notes for our team mates, they allow us to leave a note if we shoot up a lift bag, they allow us to use standardized tables in our notes, we can write several different schedules in our notes. I also have waterproof tables that I leave in the notes..
So in short they provide a wide variety of options and uses..
Moreover, someone said that they are expensive and I disagree.. They cost about $15 + or - and they are invaluable when you get into advanced diving...
