Hope it's not too late to jump in on this topic. I have a trv900, I have never found a reason to use a filter. I set the white balance on automatic and once underwater I point it to the sun. Instant blue water. A few weeks ago, I was taking survey video under a dock, 2 foot brown vis. I got to the depth I needed, pointed to the sun and the camera thought it was in Hawaii. I also, almost always use a set of lights when taping.
