This diving accident scenario seems to repeat itself over and over again. I don’t know if it’s a training problem where maybe we don’t emphasize team diving enough or that divers become complacent, and take on bad habits.
When you team dive (buddy dive) any member of the team can call the dive at anytime for any reason, and all the members of the team end the dive an go up together, and swim back to the boat or beach together(that’s the way it should be done).
How many times have we seen a fatality like this in the last couple of years? I can think of at lest 6 in our area.
You have to wonder how many accidents it takes for divers to wake up and get a clue about what we are doing when we go diving (we are going into a hazardous environment, using life support equipment). One of the most important pieces of life support equipment is your team member.
