For a lot of people (especially those without any freediving experience), the ESA is proof of what they are taught. Sure, the book says that the air in our lungs expands as we ascend, but we are supposed to go slow and be exhaling all the way from 30 feet!? I can still remember the 1st time I did one and was amazed when I got to the surface with so much air left.
