Do you think, maybe, just maybe, that if a GUE (or any) instructor "screens you out" that you might not be fit to be a technical diver? Do you honestly believe that everyone is capable of participating?
I find it quite scary that the reason you are advocating some agency X is because if you pay your money you are guaranteed to pass. That's a crock.
I'd rather fail and learn something than just buy a card. So I guess you're right. If all you want is a card to whip out and impress the ladies with then by all means, follow Karl's advice. However, should you actually want to learn and master some extended range diving techniques, perhaps a little trip down GUE lane.
I'll continue beating this dead horse: What logic do you have for berating an instructor who, feeling a student unprepared for the rigors of tech, "develops" (your own word) their skills rather than just take their cash?
