Tahiti, or more accurately, Moorea is OK but not great. The viz is good, the sharks are good and depending on where you stay, the snorkeling right off the hotel balcony can be good. The beaches will tend to be white-sand 'biological beaches" that can be quite coarse and rather thin. Topside the place is fun to explore with a rental car. Some of the dive operators are not the safest IMO and one French a**hole in particular had a really bad attitiude towards the customers. Topside his DM was busy showing off his bod to the teenage girls while neglecting the equipment and dive briefings and when underwater, had a bad habit of leading us on deep, fast, air-sucking dives or having us sit down ON the coral while they fed a few (dozen) sharks. It's worth the cheap $800.00 hotel, chartered airfare & transfer package if you can get it but not a penny more IMO. If you do go, avoid spending any more time then you have to in Papeete.
