I certified PADI, AOW (read: learners permit) in late '99. I did 60 dives my first year, and this weekend did dives 100 and 101.

My dive buddy I trained with did about 60 dives his first two years, took wreck, rescue, and deep training. He bought a drysuit. Got a girlfriend, put on enough weight that he can't get into any of his gear. He does do warm water dives on vacation.

I bought my own gear, granted some of it used, and made a friend who has a boat. We spearfish and freedive also.

I tend to do hobbies in 5 to 10 year patterns - motorcycles to horses to photography to scuba / freediving. I suspect I'll never do another 60 dive year, but that I'll always dive periodically. It's just too much fun to do without entirely.

I do have a girlfriend and have also put on some weight (gonna have to adjust the BC), but she's an active girl who encourages me to get out and have fun with the guys.
