You should read the full article for the first one (Agardy, et al.). This is not a case of hiring your own scientists to say whatever you want. The article is actually very good and has a lot to do with how we should be thinking about marine protected areas. (Although I would argue that in a couple places they're paying more attention to politics than scientists ought.)
The summary posted above (pretty sure that was from a fishing list, right?) is not especially accurate... as you'll see if you read the article. Mostly the article just makes the point that we should be as rational as possible in designing MPAs... which is true. (of course there's more to it if you read the article)
