I admit it might be a scallop and that they don't always have 'much' color, but this had a distinctly white appearance to the mantle and the shell, hence my assumption it was an oyster. Your suggestion of an abalone shingle seems reasonable. THere were a lot of them on the rigs. Next time, I'll grab one for close inspection.
