Over Labor Day weekend my girlfriend Kathryn and I drove up to Mendocino County to stay with my friends Curt & Doris and their twins Miles & Mia.
We rented a house on the coast with beach access.
The following pictures show some of the view of the beach from the cliff the house sits on.

On the afternoon of September 1, 2003 Curt and I decided to ab diving even though the tide was +6 feet at the time.
We went down the trail in front of the house and swam out. The area where we took the abs was about 20 feet deep.
The visibility in the area was about 5 feet, not great, but good enough.
We each have 9” gauges, so we looked for large ones.
All of our abs were well over 8” and each of us got one over 9”.
When I got back to the house I was happy to sit and drink some water.

We set our abs out on the steps, Curt’s above and mine below.

Curt’s were a bit bigger than mine, but they were all nice. You can see me measuring my largest one with the 9” gauge.

Here, with Curt’s daughter Mia sitting above you can see me measuring Curt’s largest with the 9” gauge.

That night we had the two smallest ones for dinner.
It was all part of great, but far too short trip. Next time I go up there I plan to stay for 10 days because any less seems far too short for the effort involved.
