I personally think the best location for a new wreck is in Santa Monica bay, not Catalina as many think. Santa Monica bay offers large stretches of sand in depth ranges easily accesable by divers. Comercial fishing is closed, so fouling with nets would not be a problem. In addition SM bay lacks the most of the large ship near San Pedro and long beach, and lacks the intense small boat traffic that surrounds Catalina. Such a wreck would be easily accesable from King Harbor and Marina del Rey, and also close enough to San Pedro and Long Beach.
Catalina is the wrong location. There are plenty of dive sites there already and the areas in which to sink the wreck are limited becasue the underwater landscape drops off fairly steeply.
