Swimming on the surface, with noisy strokes like the crawl or butterfly or backstroke, has got to be one of the Darwin-award notable activities in South Africa, Australia, or north-central California. I cannot imagine anything that would attract the attention of a big shark better, other than chumming. They hear pretty well, and sound travels further and faster in water.
