Andy;

Do try the BP and wing. You can use an AL plate which makes a very light package. The wing sizes can be altered (e.g. 18-36 lbs of lift) allowing even more weight savings for warm water travel or a bigger wing for use with high capacity tanks. You can also configure for doubles really easily if you want. This is more flexible than the TransPac without the problems caused by hard mounted d rings, extra (useless) d rings, soft backpacks (bad), plastic quick releases or other claptrap. You'll find they're really comfortable. There are about a half dozen manufacturers of recreational wings and lots of plates available so there is some competitive efficiency of pricing. They're all interchangeable with eachother. Used stuff shows up frequently on e-bay, as well.
