Coastal Clean Up Day, Saturday, September 16th

Divers:

The annual Coastal Clean Up Day will be in one week. There are three underwater clean ups planned this year. As usual, there will be underwater clean ups at Santa Monica Pier (contact Eco Divers) and Redondo Pier (contact Dive N’Surf). This year, GLACD is proud to announce that it is sponsoring a new site for an underwater clean up: the north end of the King Harbor Breakwater Wall.

This is a popular lobster diving site, and divers have reported that there is a trash problem along the north-facing segment of the breakwater wall. So, please join GLACD in helping clean up our ocean. Free parking will be available at the AES administrative parking lot (the old Edison Plant) at 1100 Harbor Drive. The City of Redondo Beach is requiring that we submit a list of participating divers in advance of this event, so you need to pre-register by Thursday, September 14th.

Details:
Pre-Register: Send an eMail no later than September 14th to the King Harbor Clean Up 2006 at: khcu06@glacd.org. Please include your name, C-Card number and agency, cell & home phone numbers.
Meet at: 1100 Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach, 90277 (where Herondo Street meets Harbor Drive North)
Meet time: 7 am
Briefing time: 8 am
Dive: 8:30 am to 10:30 am
Bring: Scuba gear, thick gloves, goody bag to hold trash, C-Card (will be held until you check out of the water)
Cost: FREE

This event is sponsored by PADI Project Aware, and Heal The Bay.

If you have friends and family that want to help out, we will need volunteers to help clean up the beach, and to assist collecting the trash that the divers bring out of the water. Beach clean up volunteers do not need to pre-register, but they will need to sign a waiver. Minors will need a parent or guardian to co-sign the waiver.

Thanks,
