My rebreather experience is only with Drager equipment from a few years back. The potential hazzards of rebreathers were presented over and over when I was taught the system via TDI materials. Once I received "The Card" I proceeded with extreme caution out on my own. I felt best about rebreather diving when I was with groups of divers on rebreathers or when I could find a willing buddy - attentive escourt on open circuit. I don't know the exact number off the top of my head, but I would guess that I did a few less than 50 rebreather dives, perhaps more. Had I stuck with it, and racked up many hundreds of rebreather dives, I might today feel comfortable doing a solo rebreather dive. I have a pretty thorough knowledge of the rebreather concept because I use a land based version on a daily basis. I can't conceive of taking out a closed or semi closed system, fresh from a class, and using it solo.
