Plane crash off coast
A single-engine Cessna 182 with at least two people on board crashed into the ocean about a mile off the Carlsbad coast shortly before 10 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard officials said.

County spokesman Bill Polick said the four-seat plane took off from Carlsbad's McClellan-Palomar Airport at 9:45 a.m. and had "some kind of catastrophic event" about five miles offshore.
Divers recovered two female bodies before 11 a.m., a Coast Guard duty officer said.

Airport officials were trying to determine this morning where the plane was based, how long it had been at the Carlsbad airport and who and how many people were aboard, Polick said.
