LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Authorities are looking for the fisherman who killed an endangered giant black sea bass over the weekend, 10News reported.

The 150-pound fish was found floating about 75 yards off the coast of Windensea Beach in La Jolla on Monday.

The fish had been impaled by a spear, San Diego lifeguards said.

Lifeguards tried to save it, but the fish died.

It is estimated the protected species of bass was about 15 to 20 years old.

The person responsible for killing the fish will face a $2,000.

Lifeguards kept the spear as evidence.
