It's a long way, but there was plenty of time to do the dives, feast like a king and hang out around the fire.

I find the drive isn't so bad if I time it right.

I like it better later in the afternoon/evening to avoid most of the traffic. Then I get behind a commercial to slipstream a little and keep a steady pace, pop in a CD and tune out until I get there.

As someone who can't stand Red Bull, thank god for Starbucks' cans of adrenaline ;)

A couple of things I learned on this trip: Check your tent bag for poles before you pack it (doh!); never give your buddies a ride up the hill from the beach in the back of your truck; always chat with the ranger in advance because it helps when you have to talk him out of giving you a ticket for having your buddies riding in the back of the truck up the hill from the beach.
