E-learning, 3 hours in the pool, four 20minute dives, and you have a PADI Open Water Diver. You may have a total of 5 hours of time with an Instructor. I think the training agencies have lost their way (it seems like it‘s all about time and money, and not about safety and education). We are training people to use life support equipment, and then go into a hazardous environment. It takes lots of water time to train a person to become a diver, there are no short cuts, but that's what todays programs are full of them. The true is todays certifcation means almost nothing.
