No, Farnsworth is not designated as a no-take zone at this time. It is only designated as a State Marine Conservation Area. This prohibits the taking of marine life other than squid by nets, swordfish by harpoon and pelagic finfish by fishing, Spearfishing and round haul nets (can you say tuna nets). In other words, you can fish for tuna, marlin, swordfish, bonita and other free-swimming fish. The only State Marine Reserve areas being proposed for Catalina Island so far are Casino Point, Long Point and Blue Caverns. Here’s a map of the proposed areas:
