Last Saturday morning March 19, 2011 did a dive at Isthmus Reef at Santa Catalina Island, California from the Great Escape. While on the dive I encountered a Berthellina ilisima nudibranch. This is the first time I have seen one of these in California. I have seen them before at San Benedicto Island, Mexico. I have photographed them at Clipperton Island and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but this was my first time seeing one here.

The depth was 50 feet, on the West edge of the reef. The water temperature was 53 °F.
