That is the range for basic Instructor level insurance which is $1 mil which sounds like a lot, but take a look at what California juries are awarding and think "do I feel lucky today?"

So to basic coverage add annual dues and the level of Umbrella coverage you need to protect your assets (contingent on net worth) and future earnings (a judgement is good for life) and you'll be right around $2k... oh, forgot driving and materials costs.

This is why the County largely distances itself from this program and has volunteers carry insurance naming the County as an additional insured.

Insane, isn't it?
