Both Phil and I are shooting a full frame camera, the Nikon D700. However, we're using different models of the Nikon f/2.8 60mm lens (please see above).

My (newer model) 60mm searches for as long as 8 seconds before focusing, regardless of distance to subject or aperture, even shooting topside.

Phil's (older model) lens works perfectly with the teleconverter, and he won't leave home without it. Another difference between the 2 lenses is that his 60mm extends while focusing, while mine doesn't.

I was hoping you might shed some light on the mystery, Chuck.
