I've been diving now for 17 years.
When I first started it seems to me that there were a lot more people involved and there was a lot more excitement in the sport. Since that time a lot of people I knew and dove with have moved on, and I'm not seeing new people replacing them. I remember a time when this board was really moving and had a lot of activity.
I remember when new trends in dive gear and styles fueled a lot of conversation, excitement, and even controversy.
What's going on with west coast diving? I'm just not seeing the numbers anymore. I'm not seeing nearly as many people at our once popular dive sites. Our local dive shop doesn't even have dive classes anymore, they just sell a little gear and have moved into surfing and other water sports to stay alive.
How about in Socal? Are the boats still filling up?
Are classes filling up?
Are there new people getting in?
