The next Seadiver General Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, 4330 Redondo Beach Blvd. (just east of Hawthorne Blvd. in the Northpoint/CVS Shopping Center) Torrance, CA where all our general meetings are held. Go to http://seadivers.org/meetings.htm for a map. Meetings are free and visitors are especially welcome to attend.

February 7. Peter Landecker did a week of wreck diving in Chuuk Lagoon, Micronesia aboard the Thorfinn, and he will relate his experiences and show visual images and videos he captured. His deepest dive was on the San Francisco Maru to almost 200 feet. http://tinyurl.com/landecker He stayed on the Thorfinn for three more weeks as a volunteer diver with The Nature Conservancy to document the health of coral reefs.

March 7. Anilao, the best dive value in the Indo-Pacific. John and Fletcher Forbes will show video and photos of their most recent trip to Anilao, in the Philippines. Anilao has only in the last decade been recognized as one of the best macro dive destinations in the world. It is easy to get there with an overnight non-stop flight from LAX to Manila, then a 2.5 hour shuttle van ride to Crystal Blue Dive Resort, and you are diving in 82º water that morning. The US Dollar goes a long way in the Philippines. Come see why Anilao is such a great dive destination for SoCal divers! http://www.fletcherforbes.com/ http://www.divecbr.com/

April 4. Dave Wilson will give a program about diving in Dauin, the Philippines. Diving 12 days in late April and early May at the Atmosphere Dive Resort in Dauin, Philippines, we were in “frog” heaven. Except for when we went to Apo Island for some regular coral reef diving, we saw multiple frogfish on each and every dive. And the same was true with seahorses. There were so many of both, even I could find them without the help of the dive guide. Atmosphere Resort and Spa is trying to be a high end dive resort and spa – offering what divers want (great muck diving) and their non-diving spouses want (yoga, messages, etc.). They advertise themselves as the Best Luxury Boutique Resort in the Philippines. But we did not come for the luxury – we came for the muck diving. In addition to the froggies and horsies, we saw many pleurobranchs, nudibranchs, snails, crabs, shrimps, and other invertebrates, as well as some unusual looking fish. https://atmosphereresorts.com/
