We’re off to a good start . . .

In 1988, Chamber Day was created as a way of providing more secure funding for our Chamber. And since that time, we've come back to you annually to ask you to support your Chamber. We hope you'll never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad it's there.

A key component of our fund-raising efforts, especially the past few years, has been the Chamber Challenge. We “challenge” you to give a straight donation to our Chamber, and we hope you will then turn around and challenge your friends and dive buddies to match your generosity. And I’m happy to tell you that we’ve already passed $10,000!!!

Almost half of that comes from James Collins in the form of a generous (and hopefully the first of many) Platinum-level $5,000 contrbutions. James obviously recognizes the value of having our Chmaber available 24/7/365 (and this year we throw in an additional day at no extra charge). We appreciate the generosity of his wisdom is realizing the importance of this type of donation.

We’ve also got a pair of Gold-level contributions. The first is from a dive shop, Pacific Wilderness, who not only recognizes the value of keeping our Chamber around, but always calls early in the year because they like to be first out of the box at this level. And they are accompanied by longtime contributor John Delaney, who is also an early donor every year who supports our Chamber not only through the Challenge, but also by signing up for the Flying Dutchman and Chamber Evening to boot.

At the $500 Silver level, we have our first “In memory of” donation from Chamber Director Karl Huggins in honor of his mentor, Dr. Lee H. Somers. Karl is joined at that contribution level by Don Lake, Roger Carlson, Brad Croker, and Matt Levinson, all of whom are regular and longtime Chamber Challenge donors.

On the Bronze level, we’ve got a “lucky 7” group of donors as well.

So we’re off to a good start with eight weeks and a day to go. Last year was an amazing record-setting year for the Challenge. This year we celebrate the Chamber’s 50th anniversary of helping divers. Can we set another record? We can if you’re willing to pitch in and help.
