This part is simple in a way, but its importance is not to be underestimated. Contracts could easily be mistaken for just another artifact. Perhaps the marriage contract could have a more fundamental importance. Really though, if this is about human survival based on cooperation, then a device that facilitates cooperation takes on fundamental biological importance.
