I wonder how you see the odball DMs who do what I do. I only assist in classes taught by friends. Sometimes I get my air and ride for free. If I am lucky, I get th elast dive as a play dive, although it is often buddied up with someone I do not know or I am cold and can't enjoy it much.
I always tip the crew and pay for my food and other expenses. I try not to interfere with ship operations and try to keep our students out of harms way and make them listen to briefings.
I will not normally overtly offer to help unless there is a good reason, since the crew knows what to do and if they want my help they only have to ask.
And I think I get painted with the same braod brush as the others...
On the other hand I really enjoy a good DM. Locally my favorite is still Kevin who can remember everybody's name. On vacations I expect them to show me stuff I would miss and not touch my gear!
