i've dived on several local boat charters and i
don't EVER remember one of them actually physically
checking my c-card. we always have to sign in
the night before, and in the beginning, i didn't
realize (or didn't remember) that my c-card i.d. #
was actually my s.s. #, and instead i would write
down the number i saw on my card, which is, of
course, my instructor's i.d. #. obviously no one
ever checked this to confirm, and no one would
ever know if i had a real c-card or not.

however, there was one time i forgot to bring my
c-card for a 'conception' boat trip. i had been
on them before, and i even showed my logbook, but
they did seem awful wary about letting me aboard
w/o that c-card. (the logbook was good enough, though.)
