You have two options. You can ditch the BC and hang on like hell until you can get back into it (this is the way I learned). If you let go, just remember to blow bubbles all the way and you'll be fine.
The other option is to switch to a weight belt for this portion of the class.
These days, I put half my weight on a belt and the other half in the BC for a variety of reasons and I find it much better. Primarily, it's easier to lift the BC when I'm getting geared up and if you have to ditch your weights you can do so in increments.
