Frank, just want to make sure people aren't misled and think that signing a waiver means they (or their family) can still get money from someone. A well written waiver will release you from liability. Although it doesn't mean you may not get sued, which is still a PITA, a good waiver will prevail on a quick summary judgment nearly every time - unless you as the buddy have done something to increase the inherent risks or acted intentionally to harm the other diver.
