"..a 7' coil of hose around your neck for bug
hunting is not only unnecessary, but an
entanglement hazard."

If you have a 5 or 7 ft primary hose and it's
coiled around your neck you are misconfigured and
a hazzard to yourself.

At no plcae on the routing does the hose cross
itself. No where is it coiled on itself or around
anything, especially your neck.

A properly routed long hose is not an entanglement
issue compared to a typically routed sport
primary reg. I have had divers with problems
literally rip my old configured reg from my mouth
by grabbing the loop of short hose between the 1st
and second stages. If I were in a restriction,
around some serious rebar, or other appendages
protruding from the bottom, wreck, boat (ladder
components, etc) that loop is an issue. Even if
the short hose was routed under the arm like some
of the Sherwoods prefer to route have a defined
added risk that's greater than a properly
routed long hose.
As MHK points out - and DIR aside - if you are
focusing only on bug hunting, Chris does practice
using a long hose - about 20' worth, and he's
a consistent limiter. I do have a problem with the
way he stowes it, but 20' is a long train to keep
on the tracks. At least he doesn't put it in an
open game bag hard mounted to the back of his tank.
