You say that money is no object. How about commitment? If that is not a problem, you might want to try GUE. They seem to have about the highest training standards. Besides, there are a few real jerks there. Hook up with them and I think you would feel right at home.
Do a lot of freediving and shore diving, especially in the North Coast and you will learn skills superior to what any class or instructor will teach you.
Also avoid anyone that pushes fancy gear. It will detract from learning your basic skills. It can also make you look sort of silly.
Most of all, dive because you love it, not because it's an ego thing. A lot of divers have problems with that.

PS. Uh... from reading your post, one could get the feeling you spend a lot of time surfing the porno sites. Ya might want to take a break from that before you interact with any polite company... It sounds sort of weird. IMHO
