Well for one I just ran across someone that has been diving since YMCA. They were upgrading some antique regulators and specifically asked that the octo be put on the left side. Kinda threw me for a loop. As it was the standard octo I said you do know the "industry standard" is to have the primary and backup coming from the right and your BC inflation and Hp gauge from the left. They ststed that they were trained in the method that they are using and prefer not to switch. For the diver it was not a big deal as this was their preference and was a method that they have solidly dove with... Personally I use a different method. Upshot know who you are diving with and their idosyncricities or however you spell that word.
