I am a long time aquarist. The few local pet shops, where I live are very expensive and there is not much competition. You may have better luck on prices in the big city. I buy 90% of my equipment from two mail order stores. Their prices are 30 to 35% less than the local pet shops. I do buy my life stock from local shops and my fresh water fish from a local breeder.
