I did Molokini Backside with Ed Robinson a few years ago and it was a smooth, laid back operation. Our second dive was Red Hill and it was nice too.

That said, Maui has some really easy and great beach diving. The 5 Graves to Makena Harbor traverse is my favorite. There are so many turtles here that you almost have to push them out of the way to get in and out of the water. Hug the finger reef and shoreline of the little coves and you'll find some great lava tubes. One has an air pocket in it that's neat. There's generally 2 White Tip Reef Sharks in one of the bigger lava tubes over near Makena.

Another great shore dive is Mala Wharf at dusk. I think I've seen every Hawaii fish there except a tiger shark.
